LRFMP Steering Committees FAQ
What are the LRFMP Steering Committees?
The Long-Range Facilities Master Plan (LRFMP) Steering Committees are groups formed by Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) to help guide the planning process for the district’s school buildings. These committees will bring together parents, students, staff, and community leaders from across Milwaukee who bring diverse perspectives to ensure the plan reflects the collective needs and values of the MPS community.
The committees will review data, discuss challenges and opportunities, and provide input to prioritize strategies that create safe, sustainable, and adaptable learning spaces for all students. They will work collaboratively to support the district’s commitment to equity, transparency, and long-term success, focusing on the success of MPS schools as a whole rather than individual ones.
By participating in these committees, members play a key role in shaping a plan that aligns with the MPS Strategic Plan initiative of "Rightsizing the District", helping the district balance its building populations, enabling MPS to provide high-quality learning environments and educational opportunities for all students.
How many LRFMP Steering Committees are there?
There are five LRFMP Steering Committees. These include four Regional Steering Committees (Northwest, Central, East, Southwest), which represent different geographic areas of Milwaukee, and one Citywide Steering Committee, which brings together members from across all regions.
The Regional Steering Committees focus on the unique needs and challenges of their specific areas, while the Citywide Steering Committee works to ensure districtwide alignment and consistency. Together, these committees will help create a comprehensive plan that supports the success of MPS schools as a whole.
